Add video transitions to convey the passage of time or add emotion to your video. Caution – only use video transitions if they add to your story. Using too many transitions can make a video look very unprofessional and amateur. Final Cut Pro 10.3 Tutorial Series, Part 11 – Video Transitions. This is a complete A to Z tutorial for Final Cut Pro X. In today’s video, I’ll show you how to apply and modify video transitions. The default, cross dissolve transition in FCPX, is the most used transition, and can easily be applied using a keyboard shortcut. I’ll show you how to preview transitions in the transition browser, and apply them to your clips. I’ll also show you how to change the default transition so something other than cross dissolve can be applied with the Command-T keyboard shortcut. Then, we’ll take a look at the transition inspector, and how to modify the transition parameters in the inspector, and by using control points in the viewer. Check out the rest of my videos in this series. If you haven’t seen them yet, part one was about importing media. Part two is all about tagging and organizing media. Part three was making a rough cut, and part four was adding B-roll. In part five, background music and sound effects were added. Part six is about exporting video to your mac and sharing on YouTube. Part seven is about going back and improving your video based on the feedback you received. Part eight is about auditioning clips to see which look best in the same spot. Part nine is about changing the speed of your clips to manipulate time, and part ten is about video effects and adding an artistic look to your video. Make sure you go back and watch them.
